Stranger Things: For Teens
Life can feel strange sometimes. Not in the cool, trendy kind of strange you see on TV – but the kind of strange where your feelings don’t make sense, your friendships can feel cruel or complicated, and most choices feel heavier than they should. As a teen, you are growing, learning, and the world around you can move so fast it feels impossible to catch up. And honestly? That’s okay.
Normalizing the Strangeness:
Being a teen girl is hard – trust me, I remember. Being a teen girl today is downright weird and harder. You have social pressures, school, family expectations, hormones, social media, and a culture constantly telling you who to be, what to like, and how to show up. I wonder if some of you feel like nobody really gets it – or even worse, like you don’t even get it.
Here’s the thing: feeling confused, overwhelmed, or even out-of-place doesn’t mean you’re failing or lacking. It means you’re human – and a growing one at that. God made you with emotions, thoughts, and instincts for a reason – and even in the “stranger” seasons, He’s with you.
Something to Equip / Ponder on:
When life feels strange, there are a few things you can hold on to:
- Pause and notice God’s presence. It’s hard – I get it. But even a quiet moment in your room, a prayer, or listening to worship music and dancing around can remind you you’re not alone and you’re going to be okay. Be an encourager of yourself. 1 Samuel 30:6 says David, “encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”
- Write down your feelings. Journaling can help you untangle the chaos in your head and help you to see patterns, growth, or answers you didn’t notice before.
Coffee Talk Moment: Imagine we’re sitting across from each other with a warm cup of coffee or your favorite drink. I want you to hear this: God has a plan for you – even when life feels upside down, messy, or strange.
This doesn’t mean your life is going to be perfect or easy, but it does mean God is not pacing the hallways of Heaven caught off guard by your seasons or circumstances. He is not surprised by your awkward feelings, your messy friendships, or the moments you feel lost. He’s got you. He’s seen it all, and He’s working it all for your good – even in the ways you can’t see yet.
So, those strange seasons of life? They don’t have to scare you. You don’t have to be anxious. Trust Him. Talk with Him. Meet with Him. And remember His love never changes – even when everything feels strange and unfamiliar.
Always in Your Corner,
LaVerne
